Keyword tools

The recent unavailability of the Overture keywords suggestion tool at http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/

made me realize just how helpful that tool is for a quick look up of terms. Fortunately it is now back and operational. However it has always had some quirks, like combining singular and plurals, putting words into alphabetical order, and looking backwards when what really counts is what traffic will be in 1 to six months. So, I looked at some other options.

First is to go into a pay per click account and actually get the data from there. Even when the Overture tool was down, the suggested terms tool inside an Overture account still gave data.

Second is to use Wordtracker. The problem seems to be the data comes from a very rarely used source, possibly one of the meta search engines, that does not have a representative sample of total web searching. Here's a comparison chart with another tool, Keyword Discovery. Either one is going to have a recurring cost. http://www.keyworddiscovery.com/wordtracker-comparison.html

http://www.goodkeywords.com/ - I am going to check this one out at some point. It is a freeware tool for finding words as well as looking at links and other items.

http://www.keywordelite.com/index1.htm - more focused on pay per click. One of the more interesting examples of "direct response best practices" web landing pages. I wonder how well the page converts?
